David Dolby

David Dolby (Dave), 94, of McHenry, IL went to be with his Savior, Jesus on September 1, 2023 at Northwestern Hospital in McHenry, IL. He was born and raised in Elgin, IL. He met his bride, Rebecca, in a soda fountain in St. Charles. They married and lived there until 1962 when they moved to McHenry so he could work at McHenry Lumber. Dave’s life career was in the lumber business and he was involved/part owner in many lumber yards- McHenry, Lake Zurich, Round Lake, Twin Lakes, and finally Wauconda, where his son, Fred & daughter, Liz worked with him. When he retired from there, he continued with his skills in carpentry doing many different jobs (Big & Small) well into his 80’s.

Dave made friends with people everywhere he went. He was remembered as a generous gift giver and enjoyed sharing his passions with friends and family. One big passion was gardening. He loved growing and sharing tomatoes and flowers from seeds every season. Another passion was candy making. Every holiday he made and gave delicious candies to everyone. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many.

Dave is survived by his children: Laura (Phil) Muska of Harvard, IL, Elizabeth (Scott) Parat of McHenry, IL, David (Mary Lou) Dolby of McHenry, IL; his 12 grandchildren: Cecily (Nick) Exner, Melissa (Ken) Muska, Matthew (Vanessa) Ronspies, Douglas (Shannon) Ronspies, Connie (Jerry) Adams, Cindy Carter, Sally (Jerod) Metz, Justin (Lisa) Parat, Christopher (Gina) Parat, Michael (Breven) Parat, Joe (Astin) Fanning, and Steve Fanning; and his 29 great-grandchildren.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife: Rebecca Dolby; his daughter: Marcia Ronspies; his son: Fred Dolby; and his parents: Frederic and Anna Dolby.

Dave and Becky were very close friends with my parents and esp. my mother the past 10 years. Dave and I shared the same passion for gardening and just this past spring, he gave me flower and tomato seeds which are now growing in my garden in Germany. Thank you for your friendship, Dave and may God always be with you.
