Kathy Rettig

Kathy Rettig (76) passed away peacefully on September 4th, next to her husband of 41 blissful years, Gary.

Kathy was born to Earl and Myra Murray of Chicago. She married Gary Rettig in the summer of 1982 and spent every day loving the life they created in McHenry. She was kindhearted and had a heart of gold. You undoubtedly felt welcomed and safe in her presence.

Her career spanned wide: 21 years as a Customer Service Manager at Jewel Osco, General Manager at the Dobyn's House, a licensed boat captain for a decade and served on both the Board of Directors for the McHenry County Restaurant Association and the Northern Illinois Tourism Association.

Kathy was a dog mom unlike any other, a golfer, bowler, and tennis player. She was a proud gardener and loved football Sundays watching the Chicago Bears. Those who were lucky enough knew she was also an incredible baker. Beyond her talents, she lived with an admirable positive look on life.

Kathy is survived and will be missed greatly by her husband: Gary; her brother: Terry Murray; her sisters: Sue Smith and Patty Lorch; and countless other extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held for Kathy on October 21st at the McHenry Country Club (820 N. John St.) in McHenry, IL from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Laurie Murray lit a candle for Kathy Rettig

Laurie Murray Sep 21 2023 5:06 PM

Kathy was the kindest, one of the most loving people I have ever known. She was a friendly and loving woman that I will miss talking to so much. One of our regrets that we talked about was that we never got to that "coffee time" we so often planned for but did not get to before she was so sick. Rest in Peace Kathy until we meet again.
